Adolescents Recovering Together (A.R.T.) is a private outpatient treatment program for adolescents 12-18, who are using or are dependent on alcohol or any mind-altering drug. Services offered include assessment, individual, family or group therapy, and aftercare for those coming from residential programs. A.R.T. also offers urine screening (5 minute turnaround time) and free community education. For more information contact Dr. Richard Wettstone, Director at 434-9430. Mary is an Adult Psychiatric and Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist, and a Family Nurse Practitioner who works with the psychiatrists of Valley Behavioral Medicine.  She evaluates individuals who might have mental health problems, and determines with them whether or not medications might be appropriate to help manage symptoms from their problems.  She also evaluates, and treats, individuals with behavioral difficulties in one area long term care facility. The LIFE Recovery Program is staffed by licensed professionals who provide outpatient substance abuse treatment for people age 13 and over who are suffering from problems due to drug and alcohol use.  Services include Individual Therapy, Motivational Group Therapy, Adolescent Individual and Group Therapy, Family Education, Intensive Outpatient Programs, Continuing Care Group, Residential Treatment Referrals and Smoking Cessation. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Harrisonburg-Rockingham County is a non-profit organization serving children between the ages of 6-14.Children matched in the program have been identified as needing the additional support of an adult mentor.  Children are paired with carefully screened volunteers and spend a minimum of one hour per week, either in the community or a school setting.  BBBS works cooperatively with the local Boys & Girls Clubs, and offer a Hispanic Mentoring program.  There are no fees that prevent families from applying for services.  Our services are offered free of charge to children living in Harrisonburg or Rockingham County.  Parental consent and cooperation are required.

Our web site will serve as an easy access to this list and will eventually have different languages available. We anticipate opening to the full community this Spring, 2005. The Community Resource Center will also serve as a central clearing house for volunteers and for agencies needing volunteers utilizing the current Chamber of Commerce web site as a starting point. Other services will also become available over the next few years to help local non-profit agencies in sharing resources and information as well as incubating new agencies.

FAMIS & FAMIS+ is Virginia's health insurance program for children.  It provides access to quality health services for children of working families. It is Virginia's name for Children's Medicaid. It provides great benefits and covers children in families with lower or no income.  The Insurance for Children Project is here to aid in outreaching to parents in: Harrisonburg; Rockingham County; Augusta County; Staunton; Waynesboro; and Luray so they may know that there is affordable (zero to little cost insurance) for their children.  The program is designed the goal of reaching all the parents in these areas to give them the opportunity to enroll their children in the programs to aid in relieving a valuable expense that they may not be able to afford through the private sector.  The project is intended to aid in the step-by-step process of enrollment and help parents with any needs they may have during and after enrollment.

Office Hours: 8-5. Age of Clients Served: 10-19. The Harrisonburg-Rockingham TPP provides services that help adolescents acquire knowledge and skills that instill healthy attitudes to encourage and support abstinence from sexual activity. TPP provides the following interventions:

Baby Think It Over (BTIO) : is an eight-pound lifelike infant simulator distributed to youth for a 67 hour parenting experience.

Vision of You (VOY) : is a ten-session program to help teens improve decision-making skills, make healthy choices, and make competent decisions about their futures. Available to any interested group.

Healthy Choice Presentations (HCP ) : These focus on life's choices concerning sexual behavior, and how the consequences of some choices can stay with you forever. Available to any interested group.

* TPP also provides presentations dealing with teen pregnancy issues, the local situation, and how to talk to teenagers about sex to educators, providers, youth leaders, and parents.
